Where are most businesses located in Sydney?
Most businesses in Sydney are concentrated in the Central Business District (CBD), which serves as the city’s commercial and financial hub. The CBD is located on the southern shore of Sydney Harbour and stretches from Circular Quay in the north to Central Station in the south. This area is home to numerous office buildings, high-rise towers, and prominent landmarks, such as the Sydney Tower Eye and the Australian Stock Exchange.
Additionally, the CBD is surrounded by several thriving business precincts, including:
- Barangaroo: A recent development on the western edge of the CBD, Barangaroo has become a prominent business and financial centre, housing several large banks, financial institutions, and multinational corporations.
- Pyrmont and Ultimo: Situated to the west of the CBD, Pyrmont and Ultimo are home to several technology, media, and creative companies. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and Google are among the notable businesses located in this area.
- North Sydney: Located across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, North Sydney is another significant business district that hosts a variety of corporate offices, including those of multinational companies, tech firms, and financial institutions.
- Macquarie Park: Situated in the northwest of Sydney, Macquarie Park is a growing business and technology park, hosting a mix of pharmaceutical, electronics, and telecommunications companies, along with Macquarie University.
While the majority of businesses are concentrated in these areas, there are also numerous smaller business hubs and industrial parks scattered throughout Greater Sydney, catering to various industries and sectors.
Parramatta is another important business district in Sydney, often referred to as the city’s “second CBD.” Located approximately 25 kilometres west of the Sydney CBD, Parramatta has experienced significant growth in recent years and has become a major commercial and economic centre in its own right.
As the geographical centre of Greater Sydney, Parramatta provides an attractive location for businesses and organisations looking to establish a presence outside the main CBD. The area hosts a diverse range of businesses, including government agencies, financial institutions, professional services, healthcare providers, and retail outlets.
